Should lawyers learn to code?

It’s the eternal debate, full of the lawyerly to záleží.

Attorney-at-Code (as the name suggests) stands firmly in favour of experiential learning by doing.

You don’t have to become a dev (but you totally can!), but understanding the basic computer science concepts and lingo will most likely put you ahead of the flock.

In other words, lawyers who code are awesome, and law and coding are a surprisingly good match.

And especially in the age of (Generative) AI, algorithmic thinking is more important than ever. Discover here what other skills may be useful.

Below you will find a whole lot of resources.

For lawyers (and anybody else interested), by a lawyer who did it.

  1. Hi I am an attorney living in México city. I am Mexican and studied in México by the way.

I have 4 years of experience in international commercial law, immigration, and legal collections.

I am seriously considering to start learning to code. I want to learn python and other stuff.

I would like to work for a company interested in hiring lawyers who code. I would like to apply for a position in Thompson and Reuters, Deloitte or something like this.

Are there companies hiring lawyers who code? Or they want only software developers without legal background? Please contact me at guillermoandresdardongarcia@gmail.com
