{"id":3599,"date":"2024-11-13T09:16:18","date_gmt":"2024-11-13T08:16:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/attorneyatcode.com\/?p=3599"},"modified":"2025-07-15T10:38:00","modified_gmt":"2025-07-15T08:38:00","slug":"fav-finds-1%ef%b8%8f%e2%83%a30%ef%b8%8f%e2%83%a3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/attorneyatcode.com\/cs\/fav-finds-1%ef%b8%8f%e2%83%a30%ef%b8%8f%e2%83%a3\/","title":{"rendered":"Fav Finds 1\ufe0f\u20e30\ufe0f\u20e3"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Happy belated Q4 to those who celebrate. <\/strong>Pre-Christmas work rush is picking up, but I still found pockets of time to summarize a couple of best practices from <a href=\"#how-harvey-uses-harvey\">How Harvey Uses Harvey<\/a>, <a href=\"#legal-tech-essentials\">a registration to a free online legal tech lecture series<\/a>, and a <a href=\"#legal-ai-podcast\">Legal AI podcast with yours truly<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Enjoy and as always: let me know in the comments or on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/barboraobracajova\">my LinkedIn<\/a> any tips, tricks, and opinions!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"how-harvey-uses-harvey\"><strong>#1 How Harvey Uses Harvey<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The GC of Harvey, <a href=\"https:\/\/attorneyatcode.com\/three-key-2023-legal-innovation-trends\/\">the generative AI tool that broke the legal internet<\/a>, John LaBarre gives a sneak peek into how the hyped tool is used by lawyers who have the ultimate access to it: <strong>their in-house legal department<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A couple of really good practices stood out to me in their quest to <em>reclaim time on certain kinds of necessary but not necessarily fun task<\/em>s:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Know what you are doing and measure the improvements<\/strong> &#8211; Harvey team seems to have a decent visibility on frequency and volume of their tasks and estimates of impact of the tech on these. <a href=\"https:\/\/attorneyatcode.com\/how-to-start-innovating\/\">Read here why the before-and-after view is key to any innovation efforts.<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Experimenting with use cases<\/strong> &#8211; specifically, the Harvey team reports saving and sharing prompts and spending at least 30 minutes weekly trying new things (although this is not a KPI, but a <em>soft rule of thumb<\/em>)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Think like a lawyer before drafting with GenAI<\/strong> &#8211; backing up that higher order legal reasoning is not going anywhere, the Harvey team thinks first, drafts second: &#8220;<em>After conceptually aligning internally on a way we could get comfortable with the issue, we used Harvey to generate a draft of the revised language.<\/em>&#8220;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The tools are better when fed with data<\/strong> &#8211; the insight highlights the use of vault as a topical repository of data to be mined. Makes me wonder if this realisation will finally lead to the establishment of thorough data governance standards in the legal sphere in general.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Plain language<\/strong> &#8211; the prompt &#8220;<em>Draft me [type of document] using easy-to-understand language that doesn\u2019t contain a lot of legalese<\/em>&#8221; should be the system-default for all legal work.
